National Institute for Health Research - Research Associate / Senior Research Associate in Statistical Epidemiology
This post provides an excellent developmental opportunity for a career in academic research, for a candidate with a high level of research skills who wants to develop their management skills and provide creative scientific input into public health research. The post-holder will support the work of the key school-wide projects particularly by working on statistical and epidemiological aspects of a range of population health surveys and large clinical databases including the Health Surveys for England, the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing, the National Surveys of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles (Natsal), the National Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Surveys, Hospital Episode Statistics, CPRD and THIN. The work would include undertaking analysis/providing supervision on projects within the SPHR School-wide programmes on Ageing Well, and Alcohol (focussed on young people, sexual health and alcohol use), and would include opportunities to develop their own portfolio of work within SPHR school-wide programmes on of inequalities, ageing, alcohol, or in statistical methodology.
NIHR Funding is available until 31st March 2017 in the first instance.
Key Requirements - Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in epidemiology, statistics or another quantitative health-related field as well as experience of managing and analysing large, complex datasets and research experience in a medical-related field. They must have strong IT skills in word processing, spreadsheets, database, and data analysis software as well as a knowledge of statistical packages. Experience of data management, analysis and presentation is essential as is a knowledge of clinical/epidemiological studies in public health. For appointment at Grade 8 (Senior Research Associate), candidates must also have a strong knowledge of research design and analytical methods and experience of management and analysis of large, complex datasets.
