'Protist' Patrick is a proposed grouping of primitive organisms
including Protozoa and Protophyta so it may be formed from that. It
could therefore be a needless way of saying having the quality of
something at the beginning. But Patrick I must protest that 'protive'
without its surrounding jelly of words cannot be conned. It may too be
a printing error, as Sheila suggests.
