Chair in Human Geography
This is an exciting time in geography in Sheffield. As part of our post-ref strategy, we intend to
appoint a Chair and 2 lectureships in human geography to expand our existing strengths and/or
bring us new areas of expertise in research and teaching. Our research in human geography is
currently organised around the following clusters: international development; social and
cultural geography; socio-spatial inequalities; and society and environment. We welcome
applications from all suitable candidates who complement and extend these interests or who
bring us new areas of strength. Areas we wish to strengthen include economic
geography/political economy, environmental change, international development or political
geography/geopolitics but, above all, we are looking for dynamic, outstanding candidates with 4
* research and evidence of a commitment to grant capture. Applicants should also be able to
demonstrate research and professional leadership. All candidates should have experience of
teaching and be able to contribute to Undergraduate and Masters teaching and of supervising
students and departmental administration.
If appointed, you will make substantial contributions to the department, its research and its
teaching programmes. You will have considerable experience in Human Geography, or an allied
discipline, an excellent record of gaining research funding and be willing to make a substantial
contribution to leadership within the department and the university.
The post is available from 1 January 2014.
