Yes. You don't have to be diagnosed with something just have symptoms which significantly affect your ADLs either for 12 months or likely to be for 12 months or recurring. Ie 2 months one year and then 2 months another year as long as same symptoms. I am mobile at the moment but try to find the info to support this when I get home. Tracy

Tracy,
Did I miss something when did EA become symptom based?
I thought it was a condition lasting more than 12 months or likely to and based on without meds and have a substantial affect on ADL.... Has it changed?
Cheers Dawn

Hi Jacqui. Personally I would assess how debilitating the symptoms were and if her ADLs were significantly impaired as a result. Then you could judge if she personally would be considered to come under the Equality Act as now it is symptom based and not diagnosis we need to follow. It is likely ADLs are not affected just her ability to get and stay at work on some days. As all us ladies of a certain age know some days it does require increased determination to attend the workplace but not to get dressed etc.Tracy ------Original Message------

Morning all,
Having just seen my 3rd employee today, who has been referred for short term sickness absence relating to menopause symptoms?
I was wondering how others advise management regarding monitoring. Is menopause a valid underlying medical condition??
regards
Jacqui
