Dear colleagues,
I would just like to flag up that next year’s annual meeting of the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections (SPNHC) will be held in Cardiff (22-28 June 2014; http://www.spnhc.org/50/meetings). These meetings are normally held in the USA and only come to Europe every once in a while, so this will be a great opportunity to showcase our Welsh collections. Please pencil the date in your diary and think about a possible contribution in the form of a talk or a workshop.
A core value of the meeting is to improve the preservation, conservation management and perception of natural history collections to ensure their continuing value to society.
The meeting is a busy mix of fieldtrips, technical sessions, workshops and social events run over the course of a week. At its heart is the two days of talks, tradeshow and demonstrations which will be held at the iconic Wales Millennium Centre in the historic Cardiff Bay area of the city.
The overall theme of the 2014 conference will be ‘Historic Collections: A resource for the future’ which will be an opportunity to link the collections at the heart of Natural History Museums to the demands and uses these collections are meeting in the modern world. In addition there will be range of other themed and open sessions, along with live demonstrations of software, technology and equipment in the ‘democamp’.
Best wishes
Christian
