Dear All,
During busy periods we regularly encounter empty study spaces where students leave their possessions in order to 'reserve' the space. A common problem in most libraries I know!
Although we are able to remove items such as books, stationery, etc. after a period of time, we don't usually move valuable items such as laptops. Students are aware of this and so leave the laptops on the desk knowing that they won't be moved.
We employ study space assistants to monitor the environment during the exam period but they are also restricted by not being able to move valuable equipment.
Does anyone employ a procedure/system where they are able to move these valuable items or a preventative measure to stop students from doing this? We are limited in space for storing such items so any suggestions or alternatives would be welcome.
