Part-time Library Assistant, 4 days per week (26 hours)
The
Yorkshire Archaeological Society is a historical and archaeological
society based in Leeds, West Yorkshire (with charitable status). It holds lectures
and excursions, publishes books on a variety of historical topics,
and maintains a library and archives. The Society makes its
collections available to members of the public at its headquarters
'Claremont', and is supported by a membership base. Claremont is also
the venue for lectures and a point of contact for the Society. For

The
library is open Tue-Sat (archives are available Tue-Friday).
The
Society is looking for a part-time Library Assistant (4 days per
week) to join its small team of collections' staff to welcome
visitors to its library and archive and help provide access to
library and archive collections.
Main
duties include: searchroom supervision, answering enquiries, stock
management, providing advice to researchers about the collections,
retrieving archive material (training will be provided).
We
are looking for someone with an interest in archaeology and history,
with experience of using libraries in researching historical topics.
Experience of working in a library and/or archive environment,
ideally within a relevant area such as local studies would be an
advantage.
A
professional qualification is not necessary, but knowledge of how to
use libraries and materials for historical research is a requirement
of the post. Good customer service and IT skills are essential. You
will report to the Collections Manager and will also be working
alongside a Library Assistant and volunteers.
The
library is currently going through a period of modernisation and we
need someone who shows initiative and is reliable, and flexible. We
would encourage the successful candidate to be involved in shaping
the development of the collections. This job involves Saturday
working and some lone working. It will also require physical work
e.g. lifting, climbing ladders, stairs.

potential for extension of contract.
Hours:
26 hours per week (including 2 Saturdays per month)
Working
pattern: 4 days per week (alternating between Tue, Wed, Th, Fri and
Tue, Wed, Th, Sat)

hour unpaid lunch break
Salary:
£11 492 - £12 168 per annum depending on experience
