Hi John ([log in to unmask])

I am not sure what you are doing with the visual.ly reporting, but you
should not remove the main Property from the sub-pages or you'll lose
all the comparative data and flow possibilities in Google reporting.

I think it might be that you can use the same Account and Property, but
create a new View within the property Then add the unfiltered one to all
pages and the new one to just the sub-directory.

Within the new profile, you have options to create filters that
specifically limit traffic to certain sub-directories
I think this would work, but you should check out Google dev notes.

It can also be done up a layer by using a separate Property. We tend to
use this for whole sections like sub-domains, to separate out data if
you need to do lots of analysis. This may work better with what you are
trying to do

Check out Google's Analytics Hierarchies. NB, like all GA stuff, this
changed a while back. Profiles were renamed Views
https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1009618?hl=en-GB

Good luck with it!

Two things to note from that, based on my reading of it (but it's even
later now - cake is needed!):

- that approach will need you to set up a custom Analytics code within
any
pages in that sub-directory
- I believe it will remove those stats from your main account so you
won't
have visibility of them there

But that may not be an issue to you. And I may be wrong anyway!

Hi John

We do this a lot (if I've understood correctly):

Click on admin and you should see three columns: account, property and
view (profile)
In the drop-down for the view you should see 'create new view'.
When you have created the basic view click on 'filters' to add a basic
filter to just include the sub-directory.
We use this approach to ensure we can measure unique visitors to
individual sections as well as the site overall (and have custom reports
per section).

'Profiles' are now called 'views' as of very recently in case that's
confusing things!

I think John was asking for a separate account just for that
sub-directory, rather than a filter / view… but maybe I got that wrong?

Hi

Firstly, many thanks to all of you who have contacted me on and off
list.

I had thought that all I needed was a separate view with filter applied
(I have done this, but am getting 0s in the results - perhaps I
shouldn't be so impatient?). If a new 'view' is not picked up by
visual.ly then a new a/c might be the answer.

'But why this obsession with visual.ly John?', I hear you ask. Well,
visual.ly as a nice free infographic tool that would make it possible
for me to give content owners an easy heads-up as to their section's
performance without me having to do more work.

Views (aka 'profiles' until recently) only work from the date they're
created, so you will need some patience! You could try creating
segments, which work retrospectively.
