Salary Range: £28,770- £30,300 per annum
Fixed Term: 6 months (with possibility of extension)

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant position in the
Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London, South
Kensington Campus, to work in the area of Statistics. The position
is funded by Imperial College Trust Strategic Research Funding
Scheme “Collaboration Kick-start funding” and the aim of the
collaborative research project is to characterize important
functional genetic elements and their mutual relationship in regions
associated with complex phenotypes.
An MSc in Statistics, Biostatistics or Computer Science, or a
closely aligned discipline, or an equivalent level of professional
qualifications and experience is essential. The main requirements
include experience and strong potential in two or more of the
following research areas: variable selection in ultra-high
dimensional space, matrix-variate distributions and their
application in Bayesian analysis of genetic/genomics big data and
modern high-intensive computational methods (e.g. MCMC, SMC).
Applicants should also have a strong mathematical background and
able to implement a statistical package that integrates the system
of Bayesian regressions to reconstruct the conditional independence
structure of a Graphical Chain model in high-level language (C,
C++). The successful candidate must be able to work effectively
within a team, have the ability to develop and apply new concepts,
and have a creative approach to problem-solving. The successful
candidate will be expected develop contacts and collaborations
within the College and in particular with the Faculty of Medicine.
The post-holder will work under the supervision of Dr Leonardo
Bottolo, Department of Mathematics, and Dr Mario Falchi of the
Department of Genomics of Common Disease at Imperial College London.
