Jisc infoNet funded a number of pilot projects within UK universities aimed at trialling our Impact Calculator as a means of robustly and empirically measuring the benefits associated with introducing improvements to information management.
One of these pilots at the University of Nottingham explored the tangible benefits to be realised through the replacement of the existing manual process for administering their student disciplinary process with a new automated process based on a system called 'Knowledge worker'. Through careful and detailed examination of the 'before' and 'after' processes and the time and costs associated with them they were able to predict that they would have recouped their project costs by the end of Year 3 and gone on to save over £8,000 by Year 5

I don't know what your specific circumstances are, and it may well be that at first glance this appears too specific and 'unrepresentative' an example, but obviously that is where the value comes: from knowing precisely how the data was generated and what the circumstances are. The more generic you get, the less reliable the data obviously becomes...

Currently developing a Business Case for the implementation of work flow software and finding it hard to find good examples or case studies of actual cost savings that can be attributed to an implementation. WWW has been searched but only sales pitches of 15% here and 25% there can be found, this does not help when challenged by procurement. Does anyone have actual benefit examples that they are willing to share within the group or off-line
