for Holding Silence
by Nura Yingling
Paraphrasing Walt Whitman, I say that whoever touches this book touches a woman
-a woman of full and gracious force, whose wisdom eschews simplification or mere
nostalgia in favor of the "fear and prayer" that attend evolution. Organized in
sections that take their titles from the Twelve Step Recovery Program (admission,
disclosure, surrender, restitution, &c), for Holding Silence moves, as well, through
the diurnal and seasonal cycles of the narrator's young womanhood and into her older
age with its attendant, qualified, and deepened awareness. Girl, adolescent, lover,
wife, teacher, and grandmother turn into one another everywhere in these marvelous
narratives. "To have your back against the horizon where darkness meets / its opposite
in glory or grief," Yingling posits in "Triangulum," " is this earthly life." Hers
is a poetry of becoming and of being. "The woman who you could be," she writes,
"is."

Does the Moon Ever Shine in Heaven?
by Chuck Richardson
In Does the Moon Ever Shine in Heaven? Chuck Richardson sends Dostoekvsky's Notes
From Underground into the information age: angst goes surreal, beyond identity,
meets pop culture in the form of Captain Beefheart, Diane Sawyer, Ayn Ran, Michael
Corleone and the beat goes on. A rampaging rip of a book that throws all expectation
out the window-including normality itself. If you can handle the raucousness Richardson
throws your way, you will laugh out loud. I did.

-Jefferson Hansen is the author of a book of poetry, Jazz Forms (Blue Lion), plus
a novel ...and beefheart saved craig (BlazeVOX). He edits AlteredScale.com.

THE UNFINISHED
by Mark DuCharme

The Unfinished is constituted by movement and desire, by speaking that unsays itself:
by knowing, if only provisionally, that the "energy is in the body/Blooming when
we speak." Not a bloom, but a blooming: this ambitious book unfolds and unfolds
through the dual actions of pursuit and escape ("Is meaning embedded in fleeing?").
For here, to be finished would be dishonest to the Real. So The Unfinished is a
veritable catalogue of deliberately partial poetics and metaphysics which alternately
affirm and balk in suspicion at world, history, or word.

Ghosts of experience occupy this poetry, placing pressure on logic until it morphs
into the assertive speculations that force new logics. Moving through a startling
range of tone and formal shape, The Unfinished erects its tower of Babel, keenly
attuned to "What's still not real, but missing." Mark DuCharme acknowledges that
living means being continually erased and yet he has the guts and grace to proceed
anyway, "To piece the language shreds/ into a body." His poetry enters our own breath,
blooming.

Support our Annual Fund Drive

Now in existence for over thirteen years, BlazeVOX continues to strive to expand
its programs and offerings to the literary community. So now we appeal to you-poetry
readers, writers and ardent advocates who believe as we do, that poetry is vital
to language and living. Your gift to the BlazeVOX Annual Fund Drive will help shape
the future of poetry, one book at a time.

BlazeVOX is a haven for undervalued writers to convene with readers worldwide, delivering
the contemporary through books-in-hand and ebooks-in-a-minute. In order to meet
our mission and provide services in our community, we rely on the generosity of
individuals and businesses for support. Without the assistance of community-minded
individuals just like you, we wouldn't be able to serve our authors and readers
each year.

We ask that you make a commitment to support our annual appeal by making a cash
donation. We are 90% of the way to this year's goal of $10,000, and we hope that
you will be able to make a contribution. Your generosity will make a difference
in our community by allowing us to continue in our work.

Remember that every donation makes a difference, regardless of size. On behalf of
our Fundraising Team, thank you in advance for your support!

Rockets,

Geoffrey Gatza
