** Apologies for Cross-Posting **
Booking now open for the 2013 UKSG Forum!
Central London, November 15th 2013
UKSG, whose mission is to bring together the information community, has
responded to requests to create more occasions on which publishers,
librarians, intermediaries and suppliers can all be found in one place. In
2013, we are introducing a new exhibition-oriented event, the “Forum”. This
is timed for the day after the established UKSG November Conference, but is
a separate stand-alone event. We are using a central London venue and are
planning an exhibition as well as a programme on the theme of Discovery.
The day is free for delegates and will include the first presentation of a
UKSG/Jisc-sponsored research project on The Impact of Library Discovery
Technology, some lightning talks from librarians and others on their
experiences with discovery systems, and some product reviews from sponsors.
Our focus has been on creating a programme of content that is unmissable,
but light – so that it doesn’t conflict with time spent at the exhibition.
In addition, we have secured a number of separate meeting rooms within the
venue, which would be perfect for focus groups, advisory board meetings or
project meetings – these are available for hire by emailing

Booking is now open (see <http://www.uksg.org/event/Forum2013>
www.uksg.org/event/Forum2013), it is FREE, and we welcome all members of the
information community to share ideas, learn from each other, and network.
There are a finite number of places available, so book early to avoid
disappointment!
Location: 11 Cavendish Square, London W1
Timing: 09.30 until 17.00
Exhibition: over 30 key vendors and partners in the discovery space will be
available on the day.
Informational talks:
· The Keynote talk by Angela Conyers, Research Fellow, Evidence Base
and Valérie Spezi,Research Associate, LISU will present the findings of the
hot-off-the-press UKSG and Jisc research study, "Assessing the Impact of
Library Discovery Technology on Content Usage", carried out by LISU at
Loughborough University, in collaboration with the Department of Information
Science, Loughborough University and Evidence Base, Birmingham City
University. A key objective of the study is to establish the extent to which
the implementation of library discovery technologies affects resource usage
in the scholarly information community, and in particular whether usage
fluctuation can be attributed to the implementation of these technologies.
Two strands of primary research will capture quantitative data on resource
use, both from libraries and from publishers, and gather qualitative
feedback from relevant parties in the information supply chain. There will
also be recommendations for actions that libraries, publishers and others in
the academic information supply chain should take to engage with such
technologies to best support the discovery of resources for teaching,
learning and research.
· Lightning Talks from a selection of UK institutions with recent
experience in implementation of Discovery solutions, including: Leeds
Metropolitan University, Bournemouth University and Cardiff Metropolitan
University – more to be confirmed
· Dr Joy Palmer from Mimas will provide a perspective on
‘Discovery’: supporting better access to vital collections data in
libraries, archives and museums and facilitate new services for UK education
and research.
· Product Reviews from our sponsors: EBSCO, Ex Libris (UK) Ltd,
Innovative Interfaces, OCLC, ProQuest, SirsiDynix
Meeting space: if anyone would like to book a meeting room for the day,
please contact Alison as above.
UKSG is excited about this new event and new format, which you our members
asked for, and looks forward to welcoming you on the day!
