Hi Liz,
Sorry for the late reply to this; I'm more of a lurker here and really should start posting and joining in :)
I'm another one who has been inspired by using a TV show format as a basis for an awareness session on data protection and information security. I started session with intro then showed the ICO video 'the light's are on' advising that there was a quiz after and a prize for the group that did best. I created a version of who wants to be a millionaire called 'can you avoid a fine from the ICO?'. Instead of answering questions to get to £1m, the groups started with a £500k fine and each correct answer reduced it by £50k - the question were all based on the video for the most part and a few specific to our environment. Just like the show we used lifelines so people could 'phone a friend', ask the group, or take a 50:50. For the most part everyone engaged very well and the format generated some great discussions in which to throw learning points and to explain why one answer was correct over another, examples of fines, etc. We finished with discussions as to what issues they could see in their areas so I could pick up on these later on.
I also did a version of this for Councillors which was well received and a welcome change for them from the norm.
On the awareness raising front we have the KISS programme 'Keep Information Safe and Secure' and do various things with this branding throughout the year, e.g. the KISS principles (a set of comic strips showing 10 things staff can do to KISS).
If you want further info let me know. All the best with your initiatives.
Michala
