Dear Folks,
I hope that a bit of self-promotion does not seem out of order.
It concerns The Handbook of Sociocultural Anthropology, which
Deborah Gewertz and I edited and which Bloomsbury published near the
start of the year
(http://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/the-handbook-of-sociocultural-anthropology-9781847883841/)
(there is a commentary on it at
http://blogs.lse.ac.uk/lsereviewofbooks/2013/09/02/book-review-the-handbook-of-sociocultural-anthropology/).
It might be of interest to people on AnthroMatters. That is because
it is not intended as just a description of work in different parts
of anthropology.
Because the discipline recently has been in an especially
introspective mood, it seemed appropriate to ask contributors to
consider changes in their sub-field over the past three decades, in
order to see not just where we are, but how we seem to have got here
and where we seem to be going. In other words, it is intended as part
of what seems to be a larger debate about where anthropology is, and
is going, as a discipline.
If you are interested in these sorts of questions, you might find
the volume intriguing. And if you want to know more, let me know.
Yours,
James Carrier
