Thanks Alan
The iPhone app is certainly handy where a kerb or handrail is present but we have a situation on Bangor where the authority are not accepting that BB parking is not relevant to access shops that are 100 yards away and / or up steep gradients so we want to provide accurate measurements

I notice with the digital ones that it can be difficult to read the result because the display is on the side of the level ie at ground level if the level is used on a footway or ramp.. I also have an iphone app which gives a % readout and I have made a laminated credit card sized conversion chart which I keep in my wallet. The iphone app works quite well and is convenient and you can lock the readout so you can pick the device up to read it. A good trick though is to measure the gradient of the handrail or kerb upstand which will give an idea of the gradient without having to stoop down.
