Call for Tourism Research Papers – Yokohama July 2014
The Research Committee on International Tourism (RC 50) of the International
Sociological Association (ISA) will organise a series of sessions devoted to different fields of
empirical and theoretical studies in travel and tourism at the XVIII ISA World Congress in
Yokohama in mid-July 2014. Deadline for abstracts is 30 September this year.
Researchers from all countries and from all faculties are cordially invited to submit abstracts
for the following sessions:
Beyond the gaze: tourist experiences with senses other than sight
Ethical dimensions of tourism practices: tourism and its social contributions
Experiences and narratives of travel and mobility
Festivals and cultural tourism
Problems and solutions in intangible heritage and world heritage site tourism
Science and power relations in tourism studies
Tourist experiences and gender
Joint sessions with other research committees:
Global environmental degradation: leisure and tourism perspectives
Tourism and migration

Since 1990, the Research Committee of International Tourism (RC50) of ISA has been a
forum where scholars in the social sciences and humanities have come together to pursue
multi-disciplinary study of international tourism. Besides sociology, the committee comprises
researchers in neighbouring disciplines such as anthropology, psychology, cultural studies
and history.
