Colleagues,
I am delighted to announce the publication, by Methuen, of:
‘Encountering Ensemble’.
‘Encountering Ensemble’ is intended for students, researchers, academics and practitioners wanting to develop an understanding of the history, conceptual foundations and practicalities of Ensemble Performance.
The book contains chapters that re-examine key figures such as Copeau, Brecht, Meyerhold, Komisarjevsky and Michael Chekhov, as well as work on contemporary companies such as Elevator Repair Service, Stan’s Cafe, NACL Theatre, Rachel Rosenthal, Lecoq, TEAM, RedCape. There are also two chapters that examine the core, foundational Russian concepts of ‘Studiinost’ and ‘obshchnost’.
There are chapters that explore approaches to training ensemble and two extended introductions examining the commonalities, paradoxes and continuities that emerge from an overview of ensemble practice.
Throughout the book are brief snapshots - short insights from practitioners, researchers and academics that elucidate perspectives, beliefs or practices not examined elsewhere in the book.
Contributors include: John Britton, Phillip Zarrilli, Franc Chamberlain, Jonathan Pitches, Bryan Brown, Amy Skinner, Mark Evans, David Barnett, Chris Johnstone, Michael Boyd, Adam Ledger, Julia Varley, Rebecca Loukes, Brad Krumholz, Paz Hilfinger-Pardo, John Collins, Marianne Sharp, Frank Camillieri, Duška Radosavljević, Peter Harrop, Evelyn Jamieson, Paul Carr, Richard J Hand, Małgorzata Jabłońska, Anna Porubcansky, Mark Valdez, Kate Hunter, Eilon Morris, Tanya Gerstle, Antje Diedrich, Terence Chapman (Mann), Susan Thompson, Patrick Stewart.
