Job Description

The Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a full-time (nine-month) tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2014 to teach in the department’s aligned academic programs in Physical Culture and Sport Studies (Ph.D. and Undergraduate) and Sport Management (Master’s and Undergraduate).  



All candidates are expected to have: 

 1) A doctoral degree in either Sport History, Sport Philosophy, Sport Sociology, Sport Management, or other areas of the Sport Humanities or an aligned field.  

2) An established record of scholarly publication in Physical Culture and Sport Studies, Sport Management, or an area in the Sport Humanities. We are especially interested in candidates who have demonstrated interdisciplinary work between the Sport Humanities and Sport Management.  

3) Extramural funding or demonstrated potential for extramural funding.  

4) Ability to teach classes in areas such as Physical Culture and Sport Studies ( Sport History, Sport Sociology, Sport Philosophy, etc.);  Sport Management (Sport Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Sport Development, Facility and Event Management, Sport Policy, etc.);  Qualitative Research Methods;  and/or other courses in the Sport Humanities.  



The successful candidate will be asked to:  a) actively engage in scholarly research and publication;  b) recruit graduate students and supervise theses and dissertations;  c) teach courses in the department’s undergraduate major in  Physical Culture and Sports, and teach courses and work with doctoral students in the Ph.D. program in Physical Culture and Sports Studies; d)  teach courses in the department to graduate and undergraduate majors in  Sport Management;  e) write grants and seek extramural funding;  and, f) participate in the advising of Sport Management interns.  

 The Ph.D. Program in Physical Culture and Sport Studies enjoys an excellent relationship with the American Studies Program, the Department of History, and many other departments on campus which provide opportunities for collaborative research and interaction.  The H.J. Lutcher Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports also provides a variety of resources for scholars in these areas not available at other universities (www.starkcenter.org).
