Role Description: Records Management Volunteer
An opportunity has arisen for a volunteer placement in the National Maritime Museum Records Management Department. The Records Management Department assists provides expert advice and guidance to the Museum on the management of its current and semi current administrative records in line with information management legislation and best practice guidelines. It also manages the museum archive which cares for the historical administrative records of the museum from 1934. The Records Management department is an administrative function within the museum and therefore this will not be a public facing role, nor will it be dealing with naval records.
The work will benefit the museum by ensuring that the electronic records are being managed according to legislative requirements
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their interest and experience of working in a records management and archive environment in the public sector. There may also be the opportunity to visit other public sector archives in the London area.
Full training in the role will be provided.
Reporting to: Electronic Records Administrator
Key Responsibilities:
• Transferring electronic records from network drives to the organisational electronic document and records management system (TRIM)
• Digitisation of catalogue cards
• Basic administration tasks in the Electronic Document and Records Management System (TRIM)
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential
• An interest in archives and records management
• Ability to work methodically, paying attention to detail
• Experience of using Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to work as part of a team with minimal supervision
Desirable
• Experience of working in records management or archives
• Experience of working with TRIM or another EDRMS
Time Commitment:
10 – 4 Fridays
The role is expected to continue for a minimum of 3 months and volunteers should be able to commit to this length of time initially, with the possibility of extension.
