I posted that thing to the list recently about Bluetooth 4.0.
Robert Scoble just wrote this, calling it "the end of NFC".

The company mentioned in his post is here: http://estimote.com/ - more info from them:
> Apple, Google, Nokia have announced native support for the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) chip
> The chip can communicate with smartphones from 4 inches to 30 feet away
> It's low power so can run for 2 years on a single coin battery
> These particular "motes" also contain temperature / motion sensors
Personally I think this could be huge for in-gallery mobile stuff - not necessarily this particular implementation of the tech but the fact that the general concept of low-energy Internet of Things spime-like devices (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spime) sitting in a physical space and delivering content / action seems to be now - finally - coming of age?
cheers
Mike
