Geographical Information Science is an MSc year offered by The School of GeoSciences at The University of Edinburgh. As well as being a popular postgraduate year for University students, much of the programme is also available as an 'open learning' option through CPD (Continuing Professional Development).
As a CPD participant, the GIS programme offers a skills-based approach to learning while providing a background in theory - without the pressure of deadlines, essays and examinations. Taught modules form the core structure, and participants have time to explore techniques and applications relevant to their own interests with support from highly-experienced tutors, providing an excellent grounding in GIS for students from many backgrounds, including those whose first language might not be English.
