Applications are invited for a PhD fellowship in the School of Computer Science and Statistics, Trinity College Dublin. This position is funded through the INSIGHT Centre for Big Data Analytics. This is a joint initiative between researchers at University College Dublin, NUI Galway, University College Cork, and Dublin City University, as well as Trinity College Dublin and other partner institutions. It will bring together a critical mass of more than 200 researchers from Ireland's leading ICT centres to develop a new generation of data analytics technologies in a number of key application areas.
Project title: Bayesian methods for streaming data
Description: The funded project will seek to develop methodology in the area of sequential Bayesian learning with streaming data. Emphasis will be on scaleable algorithms and the development and evaluation of approximations that permit such scaleability. The use of multi-core processing will be key.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree or M.Sc. with a significant component of probability, statistics or machine learning. Some experience of programming (R, C++, Java, etc.) will also be needed. Some experience of Bayesian methods is also an advantage.
Details of the Fellowship: The starting date is October 1st, 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter. The fellowship covers PhD fees and attracts a stipend for four years.
