Marketing and internal change: A case study based approach to strategic
and operational development of your information service: Elisabeth
Goodman & Shaida Dorabjee
Whether you, your department, or your overall organisation is
introducing large-scale strategic change, or is looking to make more
operational improvements, the chances are that you need to develop new
e-services or e-products, new ways of working, and communicating new
information and knowledge to your customers.
Marketing yourself, your products and your services, and leading and
managing internal change, are not luxuries: they are a necessity for any
professional looking to successfully position themselves and their
business in today's economic climate. Understanding where you and your
stakeholders are in the change process, and proactively promoting new
products and services are essential skills for any information
professional concerned with the effective delivery of e-information.
There are many well-tested techniques to help you enhance your skills
for successful strategic and operational development. Through a series
of case studies, including those provided by delegates in advance, this
course will use the key components of marketing and change management to
work through these specific scenarios in a participative and practical
day.

Enterprise Search: Martin White
In most organisations website search and enterprise search applications
are managed on an ad hoc basis, with limited staff and budget resources
and no clear objectives other than "We want it to be as good as
Google!". As with any corporate resource, search objectives and
resources need to be set out in a strategy document that also reflects
the relationship between content quality and search quality.
The course will be a mixture of presentations and group work to enable
delegates to return to their organisations with a detailed template for
a corporate search strategy that will cover
Defining objectives for website and enterprise search
Developing search personas and use cases
Who should take responsibility for a search strategy
The challenges of managing SharePoint and open source search
applications
The role and responsibilities of a search manager
Assessing search performance, satisfaction and business impact
Integrating a search strategy with an information management
strategy
Implications of mobile search
Planning for future requirements and technology advances
