Position Opening: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering (Transport), University of Queensland
The School of Civil Engineering at the University of Queensland, under the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture & Information Technology, invites applications for a continuing, full-time appointment as a lecturer or senior lecturer in the area of transport engineering, planning, or management. The School of Civil Engineering has a long and proud record of academic achievement and involvement with the profession and industry and is among the leaders in civil engineering education and research in Australia and has world standing in several research areas. Its mission is to provide a cohesive learning environment enabling quality education, leadership with a desire to meet technological challenges and an ability to work with a wide range of people.
The School employs 24 full time academic staff who contribute to its teaching and research programs. The School's total income is approximately $20M. The University has recently appointed a new Head of School, Professor José Torero who is a world renowned researcher in fire engineering and is the Chief-Editor of the Fire Safety journal. The School has also appointed Professor Mark Hickman as the ASTRA Chair and Professor of Transport Engineering. The School is currently moving into a new state-of-the-art Advanced Engineering Building (AEB) with modern structures, fluids, and geomechanics laboratory facilities. A number of research centres, including the CSC for Sustainable Tourism, the Centre for Transport Strategy, the Geotechnical Engineering Centre, and the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training are part of the School.
The School contributes to teaching in the Bachelor of Engineering (BE) with over 800 students enrolled in years 2, 3 and 4 of the BE in the fields of Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering. There are also approximately 80 students enrolled in research higher degrees. The role
To engage, as a lecturer or senior lecturer, in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, postgraduate supervision, and further development of the School's Civil Engineering program, as well as performing research, administrative and other activities associated with the School and its Centre for Transport Strategy. The successful appointee will have access to start-up resources and some ongoing support, and will be encouraged to apply for his/her own research funding.
The person
Applicants should possess PhD qualifications in the area of Civil Engineering with specialisation in Transport Engineering, Planning, Management, or a closely related field. You should also have a strong desire to develop a successful and highly-productive research career in health behaviour, good general research skills, a strong methodological background, excellent statistical and analytic skills, very good writing abilities, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams.
Remuneration
This is a full-time, continuing appointment at Academic level B or C dependent on experience. The remuneration package will be in the range $95,773 - $113,730 (level B) p.a., or $117,322 - $135,279 (level C) p.a., including employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%.
