We regularly use an Occupational Psychiatrist for independent psych opinions especially where the NHS has been particularly slow in assessment or the symptoms are ambiguous. Of course the person has to consent to go, know what info you are sending and the questions you are going to ask so if you don’t have someone to have that discussion then it wont be a kosher onward referral..
You can get 'expert witness' psychiatrists lists form the RSP but they also have a new speciality group registered of psychiatrist s that practice in the occupational field. We use Max Henderson who is based at Kings in London

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Psychiatrist referral in work related stress?
Good afternoon all,
When investigating reports of work related stress, I wondered if anyone has referred the Employee to a Psychiatrist to evaluate if an underlying mental health diagnosable condition exists?
In the same vein as we would perhaps refer someone with a reported potentially work related skin problem to a Dermatologist to confirm or rule out work relatedness, would anyone adopt the same approach with a Psyche referral for work related stress? I'm not sure that in our culture this would take place, but I work for a US based company and this approach may be more common in the States than the UK, where going to see a Psychiatrist is not seen as a big deal.
I'm interested to know.
If you have, I'd be glad to hear of the outcome and your opinions.
Many thanks,
Roisin
