Hi
I worked in the food industry and when I started this issue with tubigrip seemed to be the norm. It was issued by the treatment nurse for any type of MSD problem associated with the arm. This obviously is not the best way to go about things. Each individual who requests tubigrip needs to be referred to OH and a full MSK assessment undertaken to establish if indeed there is a problem, the causation, a diagnosis and a plan of action.
It would be worth keeping stats associated to these assessments to see if there are any common denominators e.g. one particular task that causes more problems. This would then allow for targeted health promotion/further assessments etc.
Also is health surveillance undertaken and if so what are MSK questions/assessments asked within this? Does this need reviewing? If health surveillance has been undertaken have there been any trends identified?
I hope this assists
Debbie

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] TubiGrip
I work in the food prep industry. It appears to be the norm company wide to issue tubigrip to anyone under the age of 18 and anyone who says they have weak wrists or pain. The roles are aften very repetative and we do have regular rotation.
I would prefer tubigrip is not issued as it a compression bandage not support bandage.
Does anyone have any evidence to support this? Is it issued elsewhere? What are your views please.
It would also appear there may be no policy and untrained persons are expected to issue it.
