Postdoctoral position in Atmospheric FTIR Spectrometry
The PAyload for Remote sounding of the Atmosphere using Balloon Limb
Experiments (PARABLE) Project
A post-doctoral position (PDF) is available from Fall 2013 (potentially
from 1 October 2013) in the Department of Physics at the University of
Toronto. This two-year position is in the field of infrared Fourier
transform spectroscopy for atmospheric remote sounding. The PDF will be
part of a team developing a new payload for solar occultation
measurements from a high-altitude balloon platform to measure profiles
of trace gases and aerosols. The PDF will be responsible for the
operation of a high-resolution infrared Fourier transform spectrometer.
The position is based in Toronto, Canada and will be jointly
supervised by Prof. Kaley Walker and Dr. Pierre Fogal. This position
will involve travel and extended field work. Salary is commensurate
with experience.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in a relevant area of physics
or chemistry and must have excellent written and oral communication
skills. Demonstrated scientific and technical skills (e.g. construction
and operation of field or laboratory instrumentation) and programming
experience with Python, C/C++, and Linux are required for this position.
Strong preference will be given to those candidates with expertise in
atmospheric science and an understanding of spectral modelling and
retrieval theory. Candidates must be self-motivated and able to work
independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Applicants should send a CV, application letter and the names of at
least two references to Prof. Kaley Walker at:
[log in to unmask] The one-page application letter
should address their qualifications and suitability for the PDF
position. Be sure to note the title of the position that you are
applying for in the subject of your email and your letter.*
To be considered for this position, complete applications must arrive by
11 August 2013.
