Subject: Re: Postdoc opportunities
Hi Jill
Let me know if you or anyone you know might be interested. I would really like to get at least one for social work around peer support in mental health or homelessness/mental health.
There is an opportunity at Newcastle for postdocs who have completed their PhDs in the last five years. Our school (HASS) and faculty (FEDUA) are offering two new development opportunities for the latter part of Semester 2, 2013. Yes, short notice, I know. The schemes provide an opportunity to bring strong early career scholars to Newcastle to work on applications for externally-funded full postdocs.
1. SHaSS (our school) 3-month Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for international scholars (two places available)
2. FEDUA (our faculty) external Postdoctoral Visitors scheme for national and international scholars (up to four available)
The Faculty is interested in identifying outstanding early career researchers within 5 working years since completing their doctoral qualification who are aligned with areas of research strength and would like to come to Newcastle to work intensively on an externally funded Postdoctoral application, such as ARC DECRA or NHMRC Postdoctoral
Fellowships for submission in 2014.
We are seeking Applications and Expressions of Interest from eligible individuals in social work whose research aligns with our discipline. An outstanding research environment exists in social work which was rated
the top research group in social work in the most recent research quality assessment round ERA. Social Work at Newcastle received a five - well above world standard - and was the only research team in Australia
to score a five: see http://www.newcastle.edu.au/research/era/
The first is a SHaSS school initiative - the school in which social work is located
It is a call for applications for two 3-month Postdoctoral Research Development Placements for international scholars. There are two paid positions available at Level B.1 pro rata for 3 months plus a return economy airfare to Newcastle. Applicants must have a PhD from an international university and be able to commence by September 16.
Applications close on Wednesday 31 July via HR. Application Form: https://hronline.newcastle.edu.au/pls/wssprod/WK8127$VAC.QueryView?P_VACANCY_REF_NO=2241

The second is a Faculty (FEDUA) call for Expressions of Interest for external Postdoctoral Research Visitors.
This scheme is for applicants with doctoral qualifications from international universities or Australian universities (except UoN). No stipend or salary is involved, however successful applicants will be provided with return air travel to Newcastle, accommodation, and subsistence. Visitors are expected to be on campus for ~ two weeks in
late 2013 and exact dates can be negotiated. Up to four places are available.

The primary purpose of both opportunities is to facilitate intensive work on a full postdoctoral application for submission in 2014 with support from the relevant discipline and the Faculty’s Research Unit. In addition, the SHaSS 3-month Postdoctoral Research Development Placement for international scholars requires that they work on
publications and participate in the academic life of the relevant discipline, program or group.
Applicants who are interested in applying for either position (from the social work discipline), please let me know too: [log in to unmask]
Best wishes
Mel
