Dear Med Soc News list member
Have you ever considered joining the British Sociological Association's (BSA) Medical Sociology Committee? A number of places are available for enthusiastic medical sociologists keen to get more involved in the running of the committee's activities including the annual BSA Medical Sociology Conference.
MedSoc committee ordinary members (4 vacancies):
The offer is open to anyone who is a member of the BSA (find out more about membership of the BSA at www.britsoc.co.uk/join ). The term of office will run from September 2013 for 2 years in the first instance, but is renewable for a further two years thereafter.
The position involves: attending 3 committee meetings per year plus the annual conference (travel and accommodation/registration expenses paid); helping to plan, organise and review abstracts for the annual conference; and contributing to the remit of the committee - to foster the development of teaching and research in the sociology of health and illness and communication between persons interested in these areas.
MedSoc committee PGRS representatives (1 vacancy):
The committee also includes postgraduate research student representatives (PGRS status as defined by HEFCE 2012) to serve on the main MedSoc committee (as above) and to facilitate early careers events. The term of office is for one year in the first instance.
Elections, if necessary, will take place at the Medical Sociology Group's Annual General Meeting on Thursday 12th September at the 45th Med Soc Annual Conference at the University of York.
If you're interested visit http://www.britsoc.co.uk/medical-sociology.aspx and complete a nomination form. Forms should be returned to [log in to unmask] by Friday 6th September, or handed in at the conference registration desk by 12 noon on Thursday 12th September 2013.
Kind regards,
Kate Weiner & Helen Eborall
Co-conveners, BSA Medical Sociology Group Committee
