Overview:
One of NetIKX’s key themes is developing and exploiting information and knowledge assets and resources. In May 2009 we held a seminar on the establishment of the Knowledge Council. Four years on, Karen McFarlane will give an update on the Knowledge Council, developing the KIM profession and her work with CILIP on qualifications.
The Knowledge Council’s role in providing cross-government leadership on knowledge and information management has implications which extend far beyond government, not only in ensuring the appropriate capture, description, management and preservation of vital government information, but influencing attitudes way beyond government, nurturing a culture that recognises the value of good knowledge and information management, developing information professionals, and collating and communicating expertise on KIM in order to help the development and implementation of knowledge management strategies and programmes.
Learning objectives:
• To understand the role and objectives of the Knowledge Council
• To consider any possible implications for your own organization
• To consider potential implications for your own and your colleagues’ professional development
