Dear All,
NERC is running a consultation on the future of its institutes,
specifically the British Geological Survey, National Oceanography
Centre, the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology and the National Centre for
Atmospheric Science (which NERC doesn't actually own). The National
Centre for Earth Observation is being "considered separately" and the
BAS is not being included in this process.
NERC want to review the "ownership and governance" of their research
centres and are considering the "independence of the public sector" as
a way forward.
Please see the announcement on
http://www.nerc.ac.uk/about/consult/centre-governance.asp
The Royal Astronomical Society is preparing a response to this
consultation, in conjunction with the British Geophysical Association.
We welcome your input, particularly if you have experience of working in
or with the institutes above.
Please send your views and comments to me at
christine,[log in to unmask] and cc:d to Sheila Peacock at
[log in to unmask], by 16th August, so that they can be
collated into a combined RAS/BGA response to this consultation call by
the NERC deadline of 30th August.
Regards,
Sheila Peacock (RAS Council)
Christine Peirce (BGA Secretary)
