Joy,
Could I point out one perfectly obvious conversation that needs to take
place between library types who have an interest in this conference, and
their National network managers. It's Janet in the UK, internet2 in the US,
etc. Here's a global list.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_research_and_education_network
Both professions have the same interest - "...fostering the creation of
successful cyberinfrastructure elements". And both, because they share the
same National perspectives, will be trying to Align National Approaches - to
the preservation of information in one group's case and the construction of
communications networks in the other. One profession focuses in the pipes.
The other focuses on the content flowing through them. Never the twain doth
meet.
You can see, with all the cross posting that goes on here, and everywhere
else, there's need for coming up with a new way of marketing. That's one (of
four) big data trends.

ange-everything/
It's pretty obvious that we need a directory for National and Global groups,
like this one and tens of thousands of others. We can all look at various
web sites and discover "me too" BOF's (which sometimes grow into) working
groups/task forces, and (then sometimes into) virtual organisations; at
different times, in different places. More often, the remnants of their past
activities litter cyberspace or simply disappear.
It might even provide of way, rather than burying the materials of similar
conferences on unheard of urls around cyberspace, to keep them in one place
and preserve them. At least that's the discussion which needs to be had:)
Cheers, si
BTW. I'm having (hopefully) much the same discussion on the ALA's LinkedIn
group and Internet2's LinkedIn group (as they're Nationals). But as they are
both locked groups it's pretty hard to align the discussion. So much for
"open" eh?

Aligning National Approaches to Digital Preservation II: An Action Assembly
Dates: November 18-20, 2013
Location: Biblioteca de Catalunya (Barcelona) Conference Website:
http://educopia.org/events/ANADPII
We are pleased to announce the "Aligning National Approaches to Digital
Preservation II" Action Assembly. This event will assemble digital
preservation leaders from a variety of backgrounds (including national
libraries, academic libraries and archives, research centres, public
libraries, information science/management programs, archives, corporations,
and funding agencies) to carry out international alignment activities to
support the preservation of our collective digital memory.
This Action Assembly will build upon the successes of the 2011 ANADP
Conference in Estonia, in which more than 120 delegates from 24 nations
established targeted alignment channels for their future efforts. These
alignment channels were documented in the conference volume, Aligning
National Approaches to Digital Preservation (Educopia, 2012), this year's
winner of the Society of American Archivists (SAA) Preservation Publication
award. The first major action outcomes-an international tools/services
registry, a framework for applying OAIS to Distributed Digital Preservation
methodologies, a catalogue of education and training opportunities, and
quantitative data gathering around digital preservation costs-will be
delivered to the community at ANADP II this Fall.
ANADP II will be a highly participatory event in which stakeholders will
engage in facilitated discussions and action sessions to produce a set of
concrete outcomes for the extended digital preservation community in three
areas: Community Alignment, Resource Alignment, and Capacity Alignment.
