Assistant/Associate Professor of Media Theory
The University at Buffalo, Department of Media Study, invites
applications for an
Assistant/Associate Professor position in Media Theory. We seek
applications from
candidates with research strengths in critical theory and the history
and philosophy of
media. Preferred research focus areas include media philosophy, media
cultures, science
and technology studies, and software studies. This position is supported
through the
Techne Institute for Arts and Emerging Technologies, a university-wide
initiative to
support faculty work at the intersection of the arts and sciences.
Media Study offers an undergraduate BA plus graduate MA, MFA, and PhD
programs, and
candidates will direct work at all these levels. Faculty teach two
courses per semester,
and have the opportunity to develop courses in their area of
specialization. The
successful candidate will also be expected to establish a robust
research agenda, seek
appropriate external funding, and provide service to the University and
the Department
as needed. Minimum requirements: PhD or equivalent in Media Study (or
related field),
conferred by time of appointment.
Review of applications will begin in the fall of 2013 and continue until
the position is filled.
We welcome candidates who enhance the diversity of the University
through their research,
teaching, and service. To apply, submit a letter of interest, CV,
research and peer
reviewed publication samples, and contact info for three references via
<https://www.ubjobs.

The University at Buffalo is an AA/EO Employer; we strongly encourage
candidates to
apply who will enhance the University community's diversity.
The Department of Media Study at the University at Buffalo is renowned
for its pioneering
contributions to film, video and sound art practices and theory. Today,
Media Study adds
to these existing strengths conceptual and computational media with a
diversity very few
art departments can match. Buffalo offers a vibrant art scene with a
high density of
museums and galleries - including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, CEPA
Gallery, Big Orbit,
Soundlab, Hallwalls, and Squeeky Wheel - and is easily accessible from
New York, Boston,
Chicago, Toronto and Montreal.
