Hi everyone just an update on projects I am currently working on with Aurasma here at Bromley College. So far we used AR to enhance our Prospectus and implement some short academic trials, please see link to the ‘Engaging learners with augmented reality’, posted onto the London RSC Blog

Looking forward to the coming academic year, I have included some details of two AR projects.
In the first of these, I have been working with a member of the BSc Science team, who saw the use of AR as a way to enrich course materials in the specific subject area of Pyruvate Dehydrogenase. The delivery of the topic currently takes the form of a lecture with supporting five-side A4 handout. The new AR materials, attached to this posting ‘SciPDV3.doc’, will be presented with accompanying explanation for use, please see the attached document ‘Aurasma_flyer_AR.pdf’. By way of evaluation, we will divide the students into two groups, AR and traditional, and then run a short survey. The AR handout is designed to fold into a four sided A5, and includes a video, two animations with voice over, and ends with a short video clip leading into a Moodle quiz.
The second of the projects is for my own students following the Foundation Degree in Network Computing on the topic of Software Development. Over recent years I have made regular use of both Second Life and Open Simulator as a means of engaging students in both simulations and collaborative activities, please follow this link for the various
reports

As part of the Moodle course for the topic, I have made and retain the use of pod / video casts in various forms and so thought the inclusion of a video cast from the virtual world would be worth investigating. I have attached an example page from my course notes ‘AR-pointers.doc’ , to access the example simply following the same instructions in the attachment ‘Aurasma_flyer_AR.pdf’. The Aura takes advantage of the 2.5D effect available with Aurasma and produces video that appears to stand upon the page.
Hope you find this interesting and I would appreciate comments and feedback
Bye for now
