Clinical Brain Sciences
We are seeking to recruit an experienced epidemiologist to join our
team, headed by UK Biobank Chief Scientist, Dr Cathie Sudlow. The UK
Biobank is a large prospective cohort study of 500,000 UK adults aged
40-69 years, who were recruited from 2007-2010, have provided detailed
baseline information and samples, and are being followed up for health
outcomes over the next few decades.
The post holder will work with Dr Sudlow, her team in Edinburgh, and
staff in the University of Oxford UK Biobank epidemiology/data
analysis team, to develop UK Biobank?s strategy for participant
follow-up through health record linkages and other methods, along with
common methodological framework for adjudication of a range of
important health-related outcomes.
Working in partnership with expert scientists and clinicians in the
UK, the post holder will implement the approach for stroke and
neurodegenerative disorders and will co-ordinate and streamline
similar activities for other expert-led outcomes adjudication
subgroups. The post holder will provide epidemiological support for
research projects using the UK Biobank resource, in the areas of
stroke and neurodegenerative disease, and will play a lead role in one
or more of these projects.
The post holder will hold a postgraduate qualification (MSc or PhD) in
epidemiology or related subject, with several years postgraduate
experience in observational epidemiology. They will have experience
of: practical methods and data analysis for large prospective
epidemiological studies; the uses and limitations of health record
linkage in follow-up of large prospective studies; working with
clinicians and scientists from a range of different backgrounds; and
working within and managing the work of a team. They will demonstrate
experience of writing scientific reports and papers.
