You could send it back but in the eyes of the retiree they might see this as delaying their claim and they might be desperate for their pension. If you could ring them and explain and, wait for it, get verbal consent or ask them to email you, making a note of any conversation that would be better for the client, speed things up and show that you are mindful of the situation.
