2013 SPA Annual Conference: Social Policy in Challenging Times
**************************************************************
As a location for the conference, the city of Sheffield has an established reputation of radical responses in hard social and economic times and the plenaries, paper sessions and symposia will, amongst other things, reflect on the theme of social policy in challenging times, encouraging debate on issues such as welfare states during periods of crisis, the challenges of 'austerity', growing inequalities at the global, world regional, national and local levels, social divisions of welfare and the impact on these of economic crises.

We would also like to draw your attention to the following Public Retirement Lecture which immediately follows the close of the SPA Conference:
Bob Deacon, Emeritus Professor in International Social Policy at the University of Sheffield, will be delivering a lecture "The Making of Global Social Policy", 2.30pm Wed 10th July at the conference location. All SPA conference delegates are welcome to attend both the lecture and drinks reception afterwards.
