Planetarium Astronomer
£23,000 – £30,000
London
Here at the Peter Harrison Planetarium, we aim to take everyone who walks through our doors on an incredible journey through time and space. We want to engage and inspire people of all ages and from all backgrounds as we constantly seek out to reach new audiences.
As an enthusiastic astronomer with outstanding communication and presentation skills, those are your goals too – which is why this exciting and high-potential role could be perfect for you. A key member of our Science Learning & Public Engagement Department, you will plan, develop and deliver school workshops, planetarium shows, observing events and outreach initiatives. There will also be the opportunity to contribute to other strands of schools and public programming, including the development of exhibitions and innovative digital resources, both on and off-site.
In addition, your role will include maintaining hardware and software systems, so excellent IT skills are important. You should be keen to learn new software applications and programming languages too. Combining a relevant degree or postgraduate qualification with an in-depth knowledge of astronomy and space exploration, you’re a creative thinker with experience of (and a real passion for) teaching or public engagement. The proven ability to produce and present planetarium shows or similar digital content would be ideal, though it’s not essential.
