Dear Switju Lin,
When dealing with sMRI, I guess you only have one image per subject. You
therefore can tick the "scan" option in the data and design (under the
subject box), and directly select the images corresponding to the
subjects in your groups. The software then assumes that each image
corresponds to one subject.
In any case, you should not enter any design when dealing with one image
per subject.
If you have more than one image per subject, you can specify different
"modalities/run" for each of them, or maybe different groups.
This is detailed in the tutorial of the manual.
