The Department of Physics at Umeå University invites applications for a position as Full Professor in laser-matter interactions, as well as a position as Assistant Professor in generation of coherent X-ray or extreme UV radiation, and its applications.
Synchrotron radiation facilities are becoming an increasingly important tool in many fields of science. As a complement to the large accelerator based facilities, it is important to develop table-top sources of coherent X-ray or EUV radiation. The Faculty of Science and Technology at Umeå University intends to establish a strong research group that will study the nonlinear processes that can generate such radiation, develop such light sources, and explore how this radiation in a cross-disciplinary context can be applied in physical, chemical and biological research. Initially we are recruiting a Full Professor and an Assistant Professor, with the ambition to strengthen the group with postdoctors and PhD students as soon as possible.
During the initial six years the Full Professor position involves at least 75 % research and at most 25 % teaching. Candidates for this position should have an outstanding research record in studies of nonlinear interactions between strong laser pulses and matter, preferably processes that can generate coherent X-ray or EUV radiation. A deep theoretical understanding of such processes is particularly meritorious. Teaching experience at both undergraduate and graduate levels is required.
The Assistant Professor position is for four years full time research, or five years if combined with 20 % teaching. Candidates for this position should have a strong background in generation of short pulses of coherent X-ray or EUV radiation, for example by high harmonic generation, and the application of such radiation in scientific research.
