The Royal Academy of Arts presents two events that consider early 20th-century Mexico's importation of modernism and its effect on art and architecture.
1. Mayan Modernism in America
RA Forum
5 July 2013, 6.30 - 8pm, followed by a drink
In the Reynolds Room, a John Madejski Fine Room
Warren Carter, Julia Bailey and Greg Votolato explore the various ways US artists and architects working in the 1920s and 1930s, including Frank Lloyd Wright, were inspired by Mexico’s Mayan heritage, and how the advent of modernism allowed that past to be considered – and deployed – in innovative ways.
