Hi Tony,
We have experimented with this a little. We used machine tags to generate a unique reference for each image which can be related back to our catalogue. We haven't implemented the results but it does work and the benefit for us is displaying the full set of images of a piece (i.e a box of photos) not catalogued to item level.
Initial problem I could see: Flickr is a bit flakey.

Subject: Flickr Pro as a DAM, with Flickr API CMS integration
This might sound a bit crazy, so please bear with me, but has anyone ever thought of using Flickr Pro as a digital asset management system, then using the Flickr API to integrate with your collections management system? Is this even possible? Have you any experience of using Flickr as a DAM?
