Rates and Thermomechanical Characteristics of Processes Controlling the Rheologic Evolution of Arc Systems

Continental magmatic arc systems are major components of orogenic belts (e.g., Andes, South America; Fiordland, New Zealand); thus, understanding how these arc systems evolve through time is critical for our overall understanding of plate-margin orogenesis.  There are a variety of different factors that may control the rheologic evolution of arc system: e.g., thrust imbrication of back or fore arc material; the overall amount of sediment versus magmatic components within the arc; and the nature of the subducting plate.  We seek a variety of contributions that investigate the different processes controlling the rheology of the arc system. Moreover, it is also critical to understand the rates at which these processes are occurring to understanding the transition from a growing, thickening arc system to the point where the orogen will undergo collapse.
