FOR INFORMATION
Dear All
You may be interested to know that HLF has awarded a Round 1 Pass to the proposed next phase of Cultural Co-operation's Skills for the Future (SFTF) heritage skills training programme: "Strengthening Our Common Life by nurturing heritage skills" (SOCL). As you may already know, SOCL aims to help diversify the workforce in the cultural heritage sector by providing thorough skills training opportunities nationally and this would enable CC to offer a further 51 Traineeships over 3 years.
SOCL offers intensive, year-long, work-based traineeships that are bursary-supported and nationally accredited; each traineeship is hosted by one of the several UK heritage organisations in five cities that form the SOCL consortium. Our recruitment for these traineeships has particularly welcomed applications from sections of the population historically under-represented in the UK heritage sector, especially those of BAME origin and 18-25 year olds. Between them SOCL1 and SOCL2 will have trained 26 young people, 24 of whom are of BAME origin, the other two self-describe as "white working class". (we have just welcomed the SOCL2 Trainees, click here to hear their stories http://www.culturalco-operation.org/pages/SOCL2Trainees)
11 of the 12 Trainees from the first cohort have gone on to paid work in heritage and so we are excited to see the impact this potential investment would have on young people keen to enter the sector.
If you are interested in learning more about the programme or know a young person who would be interested in the scheme next year should we receive the grant, please get in touch or keep an eye on our website for further information http://www.culturalco-operation.org/pages/socl.
All good wishes
Leanne
NB. CC's HLF bid for the next phase - SOCL3 - is for £1m towards project costs of £1.4m. HLF has yesterday confirmed initial support towards CC's costs in developing a Training & Delivery Plan for SOCL3. This Plan will form the basis of the more detailed bid that CC aims to submit to HLF by October 2013 (for an HLF Board decision by December 2013), this time for a Round 2 Pass that would result in the main grant being confirmed.
