Participants in the 2013 NASSR Conference, Boston, August 7-11, are invited to The Editorial Institute at 143 Bay State Road for two conversations, the first on scholar editing and the second on book reviewing.
Editing Romantic Texts (3H, on the program) will take place on Thursday, August 8, from 1:30 to 2:45. We invite editors and scholars for a discussion of scholarly editions, the existing ones, those in progress, proposals for future editions, why one chooses to do an edition, how editors imagine their being used, how scholars actually use them, what scholars need in editions. Participants will consider what they most value, admire, expect of scholarly editions, their design and use, values and obstacles, principles and practices. We shall initiate the discussion with several familiar editions which we have on hand. Those who would like to participate should e-mail Marilyn Gaull ([log in to unmask]). The meeting will take place in the conference room/library, first floor, The Editorial Institute, 143 Bay State Road.
Book Reviews and Reviewing (8H, on the program) will take place on Saturday, August 10, 8:30-9:45. Authors, reviewers, publishers, and those who use reviews are invited to join James Heffernan for a discussion of book reviewing, the practice, value, problems, expectations, how one uses them, and recommendations for how they might better serve the profession. Discussion will focus on reviews which are either on line or which we have on hand. Those who would like to participate should e-mail Marilyn Gaull ([log in to unmask]). The meeting will take place in the conference room/library, first floor, Editorial Institute, 143 Bay State Road,
