The Hepworth Wakefield is seeking a Temporary Archivist to help store and develop its archive as an accessible resource.
The Hepworth holds a major collection that comprises the Hepworth Family Gift, the Wakefield Permanent Art Collection and the archive of the former Wakefield Art Gallery. The collection features some of the most important British artists of the 20th century including Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore, both born in the Wakefield District. The archive comprises artist files pertaining to each artist in the collection; records, photographs and correspondence relating to the former Wakefield Art Gallery (founded in 1934); and materials associated with the Hepworth Family Gift. Following our successful first two years, we are now developing the archive as a resource that will be key to the organisation’s future programme and wider engagement with the public. This work will form the basis of future collection displays, digital publishing and knowledge sharing, and will provide greater access and enjoyment for the public.
