The Interdisciplinary Center for Intercultural and Indigenous Studies
(ICIIS – FONDAP (see: http://goo.gl/9nn3) invites applications for one
postdoctoral research position.
We are looking for a candidate to work as part of a joint appointment
between our Center and the “Social networking and social science research
project”, based at the Department of Anthropology, UCL and lead by
Professor Daniel Miller. See

We are looking for a high level candidate with proficiency in English and
Spanish, and with experience in ethnographic fieldwork on a relevant topic.
Research experience in intercultural contexts or with indigenous groups is
also desirable but not a must. The selected candidate will carry
ethnographic fieldwork on the use and consequences of social network sites
and other new media in a small town located in an interethnic area in Chile.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in Anthropology at the time of
appointment (awarded within the last 5 years) and demonstrate a promising
record of publications of their research. Salary is US$ 30,000 per year
approximately. The position is for two years, but renewal for the second
year will be subject to the fulfillment of objectives. The intention is to
begin fieldwork as soon as possible (September 2013 at most).

Dado el carácter del proyecto, se requiere que el candidato tenga excelente
manejo del español y el inglés y que cuente con experiencia en trabajo de
campo de etnografía en temas relevantes para el proyecto. Asimismo, es
deseable que el candidato cuente con experiencia en investigación en
contextos interculturales o con pueblos originarios. El candidato
seleccionado será responsable de realizar el trabajo de campo etnográfico
acerca del uso y las consecuencias de las redes sociales y otros nuevos
medios de comunicación en un pueblo pequeño situado en una zona interétnica
en Chile.
El candidato seleccionado deberá contar con el grado de Doctor en
Antropología, otorgado en los últimos 5 años al momento de postular, y
demostrar una capacidad de publicación académica prometedora.
El salario anual es de US$ 30.000 aproximadamente. Este puesto postdoctoral
tendrá una duración de dos años, pero la renovación del contrato para el
segundo año estará sujeta al cumplimiento de los objetivos. Se espera
iniciar el trabajo de campo, a más tardar, en Septiembre de 2013.
