Walking Wiltshire’s White Horses: Create Your Escape

Brief for audio content as part of installation and mobile app:

Background:
Walking Wiltshire’s White Horses will be a heady mix of carnival, walking and digital arts. Following the development period currently underway, artists Ali Pretty and Richard White will curate a walk and create an installation. The 100 mile walk to the white horses takes place over 5 days in August arriving into the Devizes Carnival on Bank Holiday Monday. At the Wiltshire Museum there will be an installation featuring silk paintings by Ali Pretty based on her response to walking Wiltshire’s White Horses; a virtual layer unites the walk and the installation holding the potential for a legacy app and more.
Context
Escape maps
At each white horses the walkers will be presented with a flag or banner inspired by silk escape maps as used by other escapees and people travelling undercover. At those presentation points gps embedded audio will be triggered for the first time as the walkers arrive, coinciding with the handover of the map. This will form the basis of a future mobile app.
Context
Wiltshire Museum installation
A series of projections and digital devices based on user generated content curated by Richard White will further explore the themes in Ali Pretty’s work , when the walk is live there will be a direct social media feed. An audio visual projection responding to the first stage of the walk to the Westbury White Horse and near the Imber military ranges opens the installation and a further projection, responding to the concept of Freedom on My Doorstep, concludes the installation.
