Dear all,
Thought I'd pass this one on in case anyone has students who might be interested in the programmes in question. Both are located at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies, University of Warwick.
Best,

PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies
From October 2013, CIM will be offering a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies, for students seeking to make interdisciplinarity and methodological innovation a central element or focus of their doctoral research. Students from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including those working within the humanities, the natural sciences, social sciences, computing and statistics. Interdisciplinarity has become highly valued by universities, research councils, business and government, for whom complex problems - such as urban governance and environmental management - require new combinations of qualitative and quantitative methods, humanities, social and natural sciences, and exploitation of digital media and visualisation tools.
We are especially interested in hearing from prospective students hoping to work in and around software studies, digital methods, cultural economy, digital aesthetics, social networks, cultural theory of digital media, complexity, mapping and visualisation, and new approaches to quantification and valuation. Students will have the chance to audit the modules offered as part of the MA in Digital Media and Culture, and be encouraged to attend a weekly PhD seminar, at which texts will be discussed with members of CIM staff.
Students may wish to add a specific disciplinary focus to their research, in addition to 'interdisciplinary studies'. This can be easily done, through joint supervision between CIM and another department, resulting in a Multidisciplinary Research Degree. For example, a student wishing to focus on interdisciplinary studies and history would be co-supervised between CIM and History, and be assessed for a PhD in 'Interdisciplinary Studies and History', with examiners selected accordingly.
Assessment is typically by submission of a thesis. However, there is also the option to submit a thesis plus a practical/technological component. Students are expected to submit their PhD within 3 years of commencement. Extensions may be given up to 4 years. Further details about this Research Degree, including regarding fees, are available here.
