Hi
I have worked in Occupational Health since the early 80's and it has
always been implicit in my employment contract that I must not consume
alcohol during working hours or come to work under the influence-this
is then supported with a substance abuse policy which outlines what the
policy is and who does what in the event of any suspicion
I imagine that its already explicit in the university contract of
employment
Hope this helps
Lynda

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Alcohol Policies
Dear all,
We are considering an alcohol ban for staff at the university during
work hours and I have been asked to find out what approach that other
organisations take.
I would be grateful to know if any other organisations, particularly
those in the public sector, have introduced an alcohol ban on staff
during work hours, how it is enforced and whether anyone undertakes
alcohol testing, along with any issues or problems you have come across
and how you overcame them.
Many thanks
Justin
